Descriptive Essay: THE SCREAM

Edvard Munch was a Norwegian painter and printmaker who created a lot of paintings which made him into a famous artist, This is the case of The Scream, a famous work which is considered a cultural icon similar to The Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

The dimension of this painting was: 91 cm × 73.5 cm (36 in × 28.9 in) and the painter used oil, tempera, pastel and crayon on cardboard. The main source of inspiration for The Scream was the Munch’s life since his father was strict and severe, he watched his mother and sister die of Tuberculosis and his other sister was admitted to a psychiatric hospital.

In the painting, it is possible to contemplate a surreal man who is grabbing his head and opening his mouth , transmitting a feeling of despair, anxiety and fear.

To sum up, On this painting, Edvard Munch represented his painful life, also, thanks to this painting, it is possible to realize that in the art there are different kinds of paintings which reveal love, hate, history but in this case suffering and pain.
